There have been many discussions recently regarding job boards; whether they need to innovate, whether they do a good job attracting suitable candidates for employers etc. Employers rely heavily upon job boards and recruitment companies as these can source really good candidates for them, making their lives easier when it comes to recruiting. By developing their own careers site and utilizing other online recruitment solutions, employers would not only make savings in the long run, but improve user experience, promoting brand advocacy and engaging passive candidates via channels such as social media.
Job boards and recruitment companies still play an important role, however some companies need to reflect their brand and reputation on their career site and provide better user experience through functionality when candidates visit their site. For instance, if a candidate sees a fantastic vacancy on a job board, with a beautifully written job description offering work with a global firm, but then once through to the career site the firm’s description and other details on the job advert do not match what they see, it could turn the candidate off. Furthermore, generation ‘Y’ candidates, who are more web savvy, expect more from employers nowadays.
The first tool that is employed when searching for jobs will be more than likely a search engine, so why not make it easier for candidates to find you? The idea would be that when developing the site, optimizing the content to be SEO friendly, employers can then attract candidates straight to their jobs! Well, if only it were that easy! Not all employers are clued up as to how to go about this. It really isn’t just about designing your website to look good, but more about functionality, user experience, content, SEO, social media etc!! It should be about engaging and retaining the user on your website and dazzling them with your employer brand, instilling the desire to work for you.
Any thoughts about this?
