Part Two: Don't Be Afraid Of...Feedback

We're all out there, blogging, tweeting, digging...generally embracing the world of web 2.0.

And that's fantastic! Pat on the back for everyone getting involved.

But (and there's always a but) have you proactively attempted to guage feedback from those who are listening to what you're saying?  And if you have, what are you doing with the feedback?

One of the founding principles of web 2.0 is allowing (and embracing) what people have to say about what you're saying.

So here are some top tips regarding feedback:
  1. Even if people give you negative feedback, you can use it to make a positive change in your online manner.
  2. Always respond to negative feedback - whether on a public profile, or by direct email. This is important for your PR (we all know how much further bad news/experiences go compared to good news)
  3. If you're doing social media on behalf of your company, be sure to pass along feedback (both good and bad) to your management. No progress will be made if you just keep it all to yourself.
  4. Don't respond to bad feedback if it has angered you. Wait a little bit so you can think rationally. What is written on the web will be accessible for many years to come. You don't want something to backfire.
  5. If you are "um"ing and "ah"ing about asking your readers for feedback, don't be shy. People love to give their opinions - that's what web 2.0's all about!
