According to Facebook, user numbers rocketed a further 50 million over the last 3 months. This is unprecedented growth, and the overall userbase of Facebook now outstrips any other social media network.
These additional users are helping Facebook to generate some serious revenues. Forecast revenue for 2009 is set to top $500M. Given that there are many that questioned Facebook's ability to produce a serious turnover, these figures pretty much blow a raspberry firmly in their direction.
However, looking at the figures, this is just $2 for every registered user. Is this high? Well, given the current CPM and CPC prices on Facebook's advertising it sure doesn't seem like a lot. Does this indicate that Facebook ads aren't being used? Possibly, for some industries. What it identifies mostly is that anyone wanting to use Facebook as an advertising medium would be wise to first seek advice on calculating potential ROI before jumping in feet first.
