Hello London! Roars Michael McIntyre as he skips on to the stage at the o2 in London (I was there celebrating a birthday).

Michael McIntyre thinks website usability is a joke

By a matter of applause who here booked their tickets over a year ago online? To which 15000 people erupt into applause.

What a waste of your life that is. How much time do we spend filling in forms online? I can't stand it, he says.

heatmap testingWho invented the test? You know the one where you have to guess the letters from the weird cryptic, clue it looks mental. A bunch of jumbled up letters all hidden within each other that sound like wouasiatrump62 and then finally u think ahh yes I have it what a clever man I am, you press submit with hope in your eyes and a message pops up saying sorry your too thick please try again. WHAT A WASTE OF YOUR LIFE!! Michael screams. 15,000 people erupt into laughter, obviously connecting with that very issue.

I thought about this, what he's talking about of course is captcha technology. We used this recently on one of our corporate career sites. And guess what? when we heatmapped our form 2% of users clicked on the refresh button next to our terribly awkward cryptic clue, they obviously felt the same pain as everyone in the audience. At the time I thought this is shocking. Let's make it easier. And we reduced it from 6 to 3 letters. Ahh that's better we now only have 0.4% clicks, our conversion rate is much higher, happy people = better conversions.

So as Michael would say, STOP wasting people’s time. Test what could be annoying people and fix it.

If you have a recruitment site that is performing badly then let us know - We can help. Or even worse if you have a recruitment site with no idea how it is performing then let us know.

Stop people thinking your site is a joke.

Good night london.
