45% of people access the net via a mobile device.
With over 45% of people accessing the net via a mobile device it is essential that recruitment companies look at mobile as a viable channel to market.
Mobile recruitment opens companies up to so many opportunities when it comes to
recruitment marketing. For starters, just think of QR codes.
How can recruiters use QR Codes?
A few months back I wrote a blog post on the use of
QR codes in recruitment with several examples. Shortly after that post I came across this fantastic QR advert by Surrey base creative agency
DNX.

QR codes can be used really effectively to drive users to specific landing pages on your website, and if you have a website specifically built for mobile devices then the user journey should be really good. If your website is flexible enough to set up specific campaign landing pages and each job is on its own individual URL the opportunities with QR codes are endless.
How important is location when thinking about mobile traffic?
It is really important to remember that when people are Googling content on a mobile they can select results based on their current location (or geo-location as it is often referred to). Below is a an example of someone using an iPhone to search for “IT Recruitment”.

If you are not ranking for search terms related to your location or if you aren’t already set up on
Google Places then you are not likely to be found for competitive phrases in the user’s local area.
Can I target just mobile users?
Using Google’s Adword you can set up Pay Per Click campaigns targeting people searching on mobile devices. This is a great way to get your website in front of users on the go.
How can I improve accessibility and mobile web browsing?
If you are looking to get people using your
recruitment website on a mobile device and to find the relevant information related to your sectors, your expertise and, most importantly, your jobs then you need a mobile enabled or mobile optimised recruitment website.
Having a specially built
mobile recruitment website is the answer.
Below are some screen shots of our latest mobile recruitment website demos.

4MAT are currently launching four new mobile recruitment websites which will be live in the coming months.
What about iPads?
22% of people visiting recruitment websites from mobile devices are viewing them on iPads. People are often under the impression that all websites work on iPads. This isn’t exactly true.

It is important to allocate part of your website design/development budget towards testing and design/functional integration for iPads.
The main way that the iPad has changed the website design is that people no longer want to type anything in to search for information or jobs. Instead they want to click. The less clicks to the right information the better.
It has also changed where the fold sits on a web page (and this changes again depending on if the iPad is landscape or portrait.

When using an iPad (depending on the version) you may not be able to access things like Flash, some video formats, some web Fonts, and some code bases. This means that when setting up your website speak to your website provider to see what is possible and what people will see if they are using an iPad.
