Pat on the back, we're recession-free!

recession recoveryIn the final three months of 2009 Britain emerged from the recession, according to the latest research from economics boffins. It would appear that we shopped our way out of it - so thanks go to our Christmas presents!

Representatives from the National Institute for Economic and Social Research (NIESR), published that the economy grew by 0.3 per cent between October and December 2009, but commented that "the recovery will be weak because consumer spending, housing investment and business capital spending will carry on falling in 2010, though by much less than this year."

But recruitment is expected to rise, and there has been quite a bit of news recently about graduate recruitment schemes picking up again. Caution must be taken though: given the number of unemployed grads and adults who have overflowed from last year, competition for roles will remain high.

A first official estimate of economic growth will be published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) on 26 January.
