Peter Horrocks, the director of BBC World Service, has requested that all journalists working for the News department use social media as an essential tool for their work.

According to Mr. Horrocks, all editors of the BBC will have to learn to use social networks effectively as sources of information and news as well as productivity tools for improving the cooperation between the various teams and functions. "I do not just say this as a fun of new technologies. I honestly believe that without them we cannot do our job properly," said at a conference with the BBC editors.
