2009 was pretty tough (possible understatement) for the vast majorities of businesses but if you managed to survive it in recruitment then it is time for some long awaited good news. Well here it is... Get the fireworks going, crack open the champagne because recruitment is bouncing back in the UK.
Be extra happy if you are in the IT, engineering or
construction recruitment market as these are the areas that
are experiencing the most growth according to a new survey by KPMG and
the REC.
With more full time jobs being offered to recruitment consultancies last month than at any time since July 2007 things are looking positive. "The latest figures seem to confirm that the UK jobs market is on
the road to recovery," according to KPMG's head of business services, Bernard Brown.
High profile hires in the press this morning show real willing from the private sector to source candidates of exceptional quality to help their businesses bounce back.
Andy
Harrison - formerly of easyJet - has been named the next chief executive of Whitbread. This happened after
a "thorough international search & selection process." The second scalp (no pun intended) to have been landed through head hunting was
John Crompton former UKFI Chief who has taken on the role as head of equity capital markets (ECM) with HSBC.
KPMG's Brown does however see tough times for the public sector where cuts seem to be inevitable. "This all comes with one big warning - the
impact of the inevitable public sector recession on the jobs market has
yet to be felt, and will be played out over the next six months."
Like the old proverb says: make hay while the sun shines.
