If you’re working for a recruitment agency, you could probably do with finding out where your prospects are hanging out online. Here’s a little help...
If you thought that HR managers and executives, recruting managers and line managers weren’t early adopters when it came to social media and web 2.0; get your skates on and catch up. A global survey of more than 900 HR executives and professionals found that they see social media as key to problem solving and strategy development in the workplace.
As you might expect from HR people, respondents also recognised the advantages of using social media to develop a personal brand while increasing expertise and advancing their careers (and maybe looking for new jobs?).
It seems that active participation in social media is now an important part of the HR job role and is a substantial resource for good quality, experience-based knowledge. Unfortunately for us, there was no information on whether these people are actively seeking candidates on these networks.
According to the survey, the most popular uses for social media were
keeping up-to-date (78%) and
networking with peers (71%). More than half of those surveyed have responded to a question posed by a peer in an online community, while nearly 50% have built their personal knowledge network by making connections with peers.
Get involved
We all know you shouldn’t pitch/hard sell via social media. So how can we use these facts to engage with this lucrative pool of potential fresh leads? You could do worse than signing in to these networks and using the most basic sales rule - help address their needs.
HR execs and professionals need:
- To stay current and update on the latest developments/techniques
- Constant relevant information and news
- Opportunities to express/share knowledge and answer questions
- Ways to solve strategic problems
- Collectives of peers to engage with (i.e. groups)
- Ways to enhance their own profiles and careers
