New Junior Project Manager Fay Pullen recounts her recent move into recruitment marketing...
Taking the plunge to move from a finance background and a company, I had been with for over five years, to working in the Big Smoke as a Junior Project Manager in an industry I’d always wanted to move into was always going to a daunting experience!
My finance role began modestly as maternity cover, but I was promoted to manager and ended up working in a role that would normally require full accountant status which was fantastic from a personal perspective, but I never took my eye off my overall ambition.
I come from an artistic education and, craving a creative outlet, working for one of the top niche marketing agencies in the UK was a prospect I couldn’t turn down. I knew it would be a big challenge, but I think there’s an element of risk to every career change and I didn’t want to be left wondering what could have been.
I thrive off learning and expanding my skills, so I feel more than ready for the challenge – but it’s been a big surprise to see the amount of different talents people hold within 4MAT! There’s a mixture and wealth of different skills and knowledge, which is great for me to take advantage of.
There’s a real ‘door always open’ culture at 4MAT (not just because we’ve got a fully open plan office!) and everyone is really approachable and always willing to help, no matter the level of seniority or how stupid the question appears to be – I might have asked a few stupid ones myself to find that out!
I still have so much to learn and that’s what I’m really enjoying. The WOW+ sessions we have, where a member of the staff holds a company meeting to reveal and express their typical work and how it affects 4MAT, are very revealing and it helps provide a broader understanding of the way different departments come together to create something truly special.
The longevity of 4MAT’s employees speaks volumes – many people have been working here for over 10 years – with hard work always acknowledged and rewarded both internally and externally. We won several prestigious awards in 2014 and are ready to go again in 2015. I can only hope to look back in a few years and see that I made a strong contribution to a company that’s already pretty special.
My series of inductions are over and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into some exciting projects. If you’d like to get in touch, do drop me a line at Fay.Pullen@4MAT.com and I’ll be happy to hear from you!
