The Aim

The decision to upgrade the Atkins careers website was driven by a need to shout about their global projects and provide a concrete reason to choose Atkins as an employer in an increasingly competitive market. They turned to 4MAT, the market leading, careers site and recruitment marketing specialist, whom they had been partnering with since 2012.

Atkins and 4MAT had identified that their ATS (Taleo) application process was resulting in too many incompleted applications when creating a user account and so a better user experience was required to address this.

The Method

The Atkins team knew how important it was to engage with passive jobs seekers and so they also added the latest functionality available from the team at 4MAT. Active job seekers are provided with a Google style predictive search function that serves up jobs and content, a user experience that delivers personalised and geo-targeted content along with seamless integration with social channels, video and content.

Atkins also embraced the socially connected world we live in and so on each vacancy the candidate can see who is managing the role and get in touch with them to ask questions if they aren’t quite ready to apply.

To showcase some of the high-profile design and engineering projects Atkins have delivered, their blog highlights Atkins work in the community, inspiring projects and video content produced by Atkins employees and the resourcing team.

One of the most innovative pieces of functionality on the site is the application process. The previous standard method pushed candidates out of the careers site into the Taleo ATS, where they have a confusing registration process and long application process to complete. As with many employers using Taleo this disconnect between careers site and ATS was leading to a significant reduction in completed applications.

The Results

On first look the new Atkins application process looks like any workflow; form fields and a file upload, however, under the bonnet, this application process is directly integrated with Atkins ATS platform, Taleo.

This means applications on the website automatically show up in Taleo as an account is automatically created for the candidate.

This approach to the application process is first-to-market by 4MAT and Atkins; no other employer has this.
