Vodafone

The Aim

Vodafone is one of the biggest companies in the UK, and one of the world’s leading mobile communications providers. With more than 444 million customers, and a pedigree that stretches back decades, Vodafone is a prestigious brand that attracts many job seekers every year to fill its vacancies across Europe.

With large numbers of talented job seekers visiting Vodafone’s careers website every month, the talent attraction team wanted to improve the conversion rate of visitors to applications. The Vodafone careers website was in two parts; a brochure style content site and then a job search and application system, the Oracle Taleo platform.

To improve the user experience and increase the number of completed applications Vodafone turned to 4MAT, the only provider who could offer not only an outstanding user experience that was fit for the Vodafone brand, but also a world class integration with Taleo to ensure a continued reduction in the abandon rate during the application process.

4MAT had successfully delivered projects for Atkins and IQVIA IES to develop a unique direct application into the Oracle Taleo ATS. This was proven to increase completed applications by over 50%.

As a result, they were the perfect fit to deliver a stunning careers website for Vodafone.

The Method

The nature of Vodafone’s agile approach to business meant that 4MAT were required to put together a world-beating careers website at speed.

To achieve this, 4MAT, Vodafone and Oracle all had to co-operate quickly and efficiently, and to that end a tightly-knit project team was created to develop the fastest possible timeline and deliver the project to a strict deadline with no margin for error or delay.

In order to create a website that did justice to Vodafone’s iconic brand, 4MAT took the lead, creating a design that was instantly recognisable, yet optimised for user experience and ease of use. There was no better software better suited to this than Attrax, 4MAT’s smart careers website platform. Attrax could easily be customised to reflect Vodafone’s brand, whilst also incorporating features and functionality, such as a lightning-fast total search to display jobs and content, and a powerful content management platform which would allow Vodafone’s stories to be displayed in relevant areas, against relevant vacancies, thus creating a more personalised experience.

Vodafone is a global business and so the careers website needed to be able to manage vacancies and content from all over the world, as well as display them in any of ten different languages. This website has been launched in English, with nine additional languages to follow.

Vodafone is also a business with a strong regional focus, and they wanted to reflect this in their hiring process. In addition to the global careers website, therefore, individual countries will have their own local careers website to allow content and vacancies to be tailored to the needs of the local market and recruitment team. The UK and Italy regional sites followed three weeks after the Group website launch and will provide Vodafone with a fantastic platform to start launching career websites for all their operating regions.

The Results

The Vodafone career website was launched in a stunning eleven weeks, from kick-off meeting to go-live, providing a fully integrated brand and user experience to meet their business objectives and attract the best candidates from across the market.

New websites also continue to be rolled out, connecting people around the world to Vodafone’s jobs. 4MAT’s seamless integration with Taleo has also resulted in a drastically reduced application time: with the new website, candidates can apply to jobs in under two minutes: three times as quickly as on their old website. This streamlined application process significantly increases the likelihood that the most talented candidates apply to jobs they love.
